The Job Development Investment Grant program incentive to Centene Corporation of $389 million dollars is the largest JDIG award to date by the State of North Carolina! The Centralina EDD region continues to grow in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. SiteSelection.com’s Executive Vice President of Conway, Inc., Ron Starner, reports that in July Centene Corporation announced a $1 billion dollar investment to establish an eastern U.S. headquarters in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Initially, Centene will offer up to 3,237 jobs and long term with potential for up to 6,000 workers. The company was awarded $389 million dollars via the Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) over a period of 39 years and will grow the state’s economy by $29.5 billion. Additionally, it is important to note that this grant to Centene is based on the company paying, according to Starner, “. . . an average annual wage of $100,089 to 3,237 North Carolina workers . . .”.
